Miami Dade Public Library System
Key Biscayne Branch
The Key Biscayne Branch Library is situated on a densely landscaped site, overlooking a small pond along the island’s arterial Crandon Boulevard. FGSS, Inc. set out to design a signature building with a civic presence — one that addresses the local climate, and responds to the site’s unique location while also addressing security, maintenance, and resiliency concerns. The exterior finishes of the new library building - oolite limestone at the base, and wood shading fins at the upper level - help to embed the new building in the native landscape found on the site.
The proposed building will include state of the art library programs and media spaces, a large children’s area, multi-use community spaces, as well as providing airy reading rooms with views across the pond. The new building also provides outdoor spaces in the form of porches around the building for residents and library users to enjoy.
