FGSS was commissioned by Caterpillar Inc. to design the new Miami facility for training its customers in the maintenance and function of its products. The project includes a teaching auditorium seating forty students, two large equipment teaching bays, a Generator Set demonstration bay with observation quiet room, three classrooms, a fuels testing (SOS) laboratory, offices, lobby and lunch facilities. All instructional spaces are designed with full audio-visual and video-conferencing capabilities. The interiors were designed to showcase Caterpillar products and their function; thus, warm tones and materials are used throughout the facility, creating a soothing contrast to the hard/cold surfaces of the mechanical equipment being unitlized. Construction of the 23,000 sf facility was completed in 1997 at a cost of $2.8 million.
