Harry Cain Tower Miami-Dade County H.U.D.
Miami, Florida This 14-story building was developed by Miami-Dade County Housing & Urban
Development (H.U.D.) to house needy elderly residents of the Downtown
Miami area. The site is in a unique setting adjacent to the Miami-Dade
Community College Wolfson Campus, thus affording the residents a dynamic
and stimulating location near educational opportunities, shopping,
entertainment, and transportation facilities. The facility provides
154 housing units, including studio, one bedroom, and handicap accessible
apartments. The first floor accommodates retail space, while the second
floor houses a YMCA childcare center. The third floor provides a community
room with kitchen and laundry facilities, a medical clinic, and the
central mail facility. The project was completed in 1983 within the
owner’s budget at a construction cost of $5.9 million. |
